Today, ergonomics is taking on an increasingly important place in business. In fact, nearly 60% of people say that a health and well-being strategy is in place in their structure. However, ergonomics is complex to understand and there are inaccuracies in its meaning.
In this article, discover more about the job of ergonomist, the HMT approach and if you want to know even more about ergonomics, quickly listen to the podcast “Let's talk little, let's talk about ergo”.
Everything you need to know about being an ergonomist
“Ergonomics is understanding work in order to transform it.”Antoine Rigollet, ergonomist at HMT
Overall, the ergonomist accompanies operators And the undertakings to the change of an activity to adapt work to humans in order toimproving working conditions for employees.
Whether he is a company intern or a consultant, the ergonomist intervenes to understand the issues And the stakes businesses. It performs a first global analysis taking into account the constraints, whether physical or organizational, that induce cognitive, psychosocial or environmental risks.
This analysis will then make it possible to highlight possible physical and organizational improvements to improve working conditions.
Before implementing the solutions, the ergonomist carries out simulations to confirm that the solution (s) are adapted to operators on their future workstation.
Once these solutions are installed, the ergonomist evaluates.
“For the exoskeleton, it is possible to evaluate the solution by physiological measurements, i.e. to see the muscular level, the cardiac activity and to have a psycho/acceptance feedback of the exoskeleton.”
The ergonomic approach of HMT exoskeletons
“HMT is committed to improving the working conditions of your employees and to maintaining their know-how by adopting a personalized approach for each of its customers.”
HMT's ergonomic approach differs according to customer needs, which range from prevention At job retention by going through theimproving the well-being of operators.
For exoskeletons, when a company contacts them, an analysis of demand and need is first carried out by ergonomists in order to find out if the exoskeleton can be a solution.
Following this analysis, they will define the improvements they are moving towards, whether towards pure and hard ergonomics or towards exoskeletons.
Recently, HMT was able to carry out a project with La Poste concerning the prevention of their employees on an industrial platform. The targeted activity was mail bin handling.
A specification was therefore established to transcribe the need to the HMT engineering team. After several prototypes and iterations, HMT succeeded in offering a adapted product to company operators.
Namely that today, HMT offers 3 exoskeletons marketed and designed in-house, from mechanics to textiles and technical and organizational solutions to meet all requests.
Exoskeletons, a real solution for workstations
Exoskeletons are a physical assistance allowing muscular solicitation on a targeted muscle group. The aim is to reduce wear and tear during movements, while promotingMuscle activity.
Today, there are still many preconceived ideas to fight on exoskeletons. Despite these, exoskeletons are increasingly being democratized among companies, which favors the acquisition of knowledge on the part of exoskeleton companies, manufacturers and integrators.
“Today exoskeletons can have a bad image among ergonomists. However, it seems important to me that they take up the subject. Their expertise in business analysis is inherent in the integration of this type of system in business.”
“Let's talk little, let's talk about ergo”, the podcast that popularizes ergonomics
Developed by the ergonomists of RAFE (Meetings and Associations resulting from Ergonomics Training Courses) at the end of 2020, the podcast”Let's talk little, let's talk about ergo” popularizes ergonomics, a poorly understood discipline.
“We use the word “ergonomics” in every way, “an ergonomic handle, an ergonomic keyboard, an ergonomic seat”, it's a bit complex.”
Today, the podcast has brought together a team of about ten people, with students and ergonomists, to popularize ergonomics to the general public.
“The main objective is to popularize ergonomics, so that everyone understands what it is for, to be able to raise awareness among students and allow them to participate in a project. We are open to anyone who wants to participate.”
The second season is already in preparation! Every first Tuesday of the month, find a new podcast “Let's talk a little, let's talk about ergo” and meet them live at the Preventica Lyon show for a podcast on exoskeletons.
HMT is an ergonomics firm, capable of offering technical and organizational solutions in the areas of prevention and improvement of working conditions in order to limit the risks of occurrence of occupational diseases in companies of all sizes. Today, 3 exoskeletons are marketed and designed by HMT.
